My mission is to help you plan a successful girl’s trip! Although I love solo trips, girl’s trips hold a special place in my heart. Because I have organized over a dozen successful girls’ trips, I speak from experience. I have made mistakes along the way, I lost people that claimed they were going, but in the end, the trip was a success. Everyone plays a part in the plan, but there is usually a designated organizer. After being apart of dozens of girl’s trips, here are common mistakes that people make during the planning process.

1. You invited the wrong people– You must be very selective when choosing friends to go on your girl’s trip. Asking the wrong people is the quickest way to set yourself up for failure. Not everyone can go! We will dig deeper into this topic in part two.

2. You did not set a budget, or stick to an agreed-upon budget– There needs to be a clear budget for the trip. With anything in life, people need to know how much money they are spending. The budget can be five hundred, or it can be five thousand. Whatever you decide is fine, but you need to create one, make sure the people going agree with the budget, and stay as close to the number as possible. If you have issues with the budget in the beginning, those issues need to be addressed in the early planning stages. If anyone is unsure at this stage, there is a huge chance of cancellation down the line.

3. You did not give people adequate time to pay– People need adequate time to pay. Unless you are dealing with millionaires, you will need to set a date when the final payment is due. For some trips, you should implement a payment schedule. I start sending out details for my girl’s trips six to twelve months in advance. By doing this, people have details far in advance. If it’s a cheap domestic trip, you may not need to plan far in advance. The important thing is to discuss your plans with your girls and come up with a timeframe that is reasonable and suitable for everyone on the trip.

4. You are unorganized– Although you are traveling with your girls, you still need to be very organized. Whether you are communicating via text or email, your communication needs to be clear and organized. Before you send out information, make a list of the trip components. It is best to break everything into sections and provide details for each bullet. If you do not have all of the details, document the information so that it is accounted for. For example:

Flight– The best airline for the trip is Emirates. Flights will be purchased on July 15.

Accommodations– We are staying at Kimlee Villas. The deposit is due by August 1. All payments are due by the first of the month. The final payment is due by December 1.

Excursions– To be determined.

Transportation– Transportation will be provided and is included in the accommodation rate.

Food– All breakfast meals are included. We also include five lunches and six dinners. You will be responsible for all other meals.

Nightlife– On Saturday, we will be going to Chart Nightclub. The amount per person is $150. This amount is due by December 30.

Visas– Since our stay is under 30 days, no visa is required.

Packing List-Stay tuned.

By doing this, you organize your thoughts and make sure that everything for the trip is accounted for. It will also show your girls that you are organized and very serious about the trip.

5. You did not ask questions, or obtain input– You are organizing a trip for your girls, not just yourself. It is essential to get their input. Do not assume that because you are friends, you know them well, travel brings out a different side of people, and people have stopped talking after taking a trip. For the flight, which airline do they prefer to fly? Do they have any special needs that need to be taken into consideration? What type of excursions do they prefer? Do they prefer to chill at the resort, or visit the local area? How many nights would they like to go out? Are they ok staying at the villa or doing something on their own while you explore? Once you get their input, then you communicate. Maybe they love Southwest Airlines, but EVA is the best airline for your particular trip. These are just examples of some of the questions that you may need to ask. It may seem tedious, but asking questions upfront will prevent a headache later.

6. You are inexperienced– Lack of experience is not a deal-breaker, but it can cause your girl’s trip to fall apart. The determining factor is going to be the area of the trip that’s lacking. I have seen girls get to the airport, and nobody had a visa, so the entire trip was canceled. We cannot blame a single person for this because we all have to do a little research, but trust me if you are the trip organizer you will receive the blame. If it is something simple like an excursion, that can easily be fixed. If your inexperience is causing issues in the planning stages, some people will drop and advise that they are not going.

My final thoughts: I know this is a lot to take on as the organizer of the trip. My girl’s trips have been a success because I was determined to make them great, and I learned from past mistakes. There is no way to guarantee that your girl’s trip is epic, but by avoiding common mistakes, you will set yourself up for success.

A Story of Perseverance- Fiji & Sekumpul Waterfalls

I’ve always found waterfalls to be very captivating. There was no way that my trip to Bali would conclude without seeing Fiji and Sekumpul waterfalls. Someone told me that I wouldn’t be able to do either waterfall because the journey would be too intense for me. I knew I could do it, and nothing would stop me. I grabbed my water bottle, camera, sunscreen, a beach bag, and sunglasses- I was off.

There are around 400 steps to get to the waterfalls. Going down was easy, but if you take 400 steps down, you must take 400 steps back to the top. I started my journey at 8 am. The ride through the jungle was about 30 minutes. After the drive, I took a motorcycle. The motorcycle ride was about 15 minutes. The first stop was a super fun waterslide. When I arrived, a family was there playing. I had a good time with them. I slid down many times.

On my way down to the waterfalls, there was a point when I realized that I messed up, but I decided to keep going. Yikes!

Next, we continued on our journey through the jungle en route to the waterfalls. The adventure included more hiking, climbing, and walking through rivers. We made it to Fiji waterfall first. Fiji was probably one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve ever seen. Fiji is actually three waterfalls, but I couldn’t fit all three into the picture.

Our journey to Sekumpul continues. I got back on the motorcycle, and then we walked down more steps. We stopped at a smaller waterfall along the way. I relaxed and took photos.

After more walking, we finally reached Sekumpul, which was breathtaking. I took photos and decided to relax and enjoy the moment.

The trip walking back up 400 steps was very intense for me. If you are in shape, it may not be as challenging for you. Many people passed me along the way, and I took several breaks. I wanted to give up.

Twice, I stated that I could not make it. My driver held my hand and helped me along the way. In life, there will be times that you want to give up. Many will pass you on your way to the top. Take ten steps and then take a break if you need to, but never give up. You may even need a little help along the way. Go at your own pace, and remember steady wins the race. Like I always say, the body can handle almost anything, but it is the mind that needs convincing. People will tell you that you can’t do it but ignore the naysayers. After climbing, sweating, and a little push from myself, finally, I made it to the top. There is nothing more satisfying than being determined despite the difficulty. The result will be beautiful and rewarding.

Bruised in Canggu, Bali

Travel Stories

Shera leaves the villa every night and goes walking. Walking in itself is not a crime, but she comes back with awful bruises. The first bruise was a big black bruise on her left arm. Then next night, she returned with a bruise on her right knee. We all wanted to know where she went, and what adventures awaited her in the night. The way she smiled when we asked where she was going lead us all to believe a man was involved. I was perplexed, and the suspense was killing me. It was time to get to the bottom of the mystery. I decided to follow her. I got dressed and sat in my room and waited until she announced her nightly escapade. Around 10 pm, the time had come. “I am going for a walk,” she exclaimed. She ran out the door, and I waited a few moments and darted past the gate behind her. Security looked at me and smiled. He locked the door behind me, and I was off.

The sunset was like something that I had never seen. It was neon pink & purple- truly a picture-perfect night. I ran a quarter of a mile down the driveway until I reached the road. Shera walked briskly down the sidewalk. My heart raced as I ducked and hid behind people to remain hidden. “Vroom,” I heard the sound of many motorcycles as I walked down the road. Drinking, partying, and laughing – the atmosphere in Canggu was one of celebration. “Tip-tap,” I could hear the sounds of the heels from the partygoers as they ran from the bar and hopped into their cabs. “Stay focused Karisha,” I thought to myself. The moment came, she went into a building, but due to the shadows, I could not see the sign. After a closer view, it was a doctor’s office. I thought to myself, “Why is she in a doctor’s office?” She talked to the man at the front desk. He gave her a piece of paper, and she quickly turned and went out the door. I was confused. Bring on the mystery!

She ran and sometimes jumped down the street. When she jumped, I jumped. She took large steps. I tool large steps. She went into a bar, ordered a red frozen drink, and sat at a table. After about 10 minutes, a man sat down beside her. I knew it! She was there to meet a man. They exchanged words, and she smiled. He got up and walked away, looking let down. The look of confusion came upon my face. She got up and danced. Her long black hair draped down her back as she moved her hips to the beat. She closed her eyes and leaned her head back. She turned to her left, and I quickly turned my head to keep my identity concealed. She took her drink to the bar, and exchanged words with the bartender, but promptly left the bar. I followed behind her, but as soon as I reached the street, she was gone. I panicked, where could she have gone that fast. I turned to the left and back to the right. I spun around. I looked but did not see her. I looked across the street, and there she was inside a convenience store. She took her time walking down each aisle. She briefly spoke to the store clerk but left empty-handed. Once again, she was off.

She sped down the street. She dogged motorcycles as she crossed the road. Someone shouted obscenities, and she laughed. My heart pounded, and I started to break out into a sweat. “What are you doing, this is insane,” I thought to myself, but I knew that at any moment her secrets would be revealed. Sweat rolled down my face, and thoughts raced through my head. She dropped her phone. I immediately hid behind a building. She grabbed her phone and ran down the street, as her hair flowed in the wind. All of a sudden, BOOM! “Ahhhhhhh.” I heard a loud scream. Shera had fallen and was almost devoured by a large square hole in the ground. Her entire right leg was swallowed by the massive gap in the pavement. I grabbed her hand to help her out, and as I pulled her out of the enormous hole in the ground, I noticed yet another massive bruise on her leg. She grabbed my hand and looked deep into my eyes. Her brows were furrowed as she stated, “Karisha, have you been following me?”

Author Revelations: I love to advise by storytelling. This story was a fun way to inform you, but please be careful. If you have been to Bali, you know that there are holes in the pavements and sidewalks. Sometimes they catch you off guard. Safe travels!

Are you a luxury traveler, or a traveler looking for a hidden contemporary getaway? I spent some time in Canggu, Bali, and needed pampering and relaxation. I stayed at Yetama Villas. If you’re looking for paradise on earth while in Bali, this tropical villa is for you.

Suites-The property has six luxury suites that all include a private bathroom. The villa has seven beds and 6.5 baths. It can accommodate a total of 12.

There is an outdoor pool and deck, rooftop sun deck and lounge, fully equipped kitchen, living area, tropical zen garden, and private security. The pool deck is magical. I spent days here lounging in the sun, eating fruit, listening to music, and drinking champagne. The rooftop sun deck is a great place to drink and share stories with your closest friends.

The grounds are highlighted by a zen bamboo garden stepping stone path. I played on this path daily like a big kid.

The living area has a very comfortable chaise sofa, fully equipped kitchen, and center island.

There is also an entertainment room that has twin beds and a 55-inch television.

The host will help you arrange the following services if needed: excursions, airport transfers, private driver, motorbike rental, SIM card, laundry & dry cleaning, floating breakfast, and a chef.

There is high-speed WiFi throughout the villa. The staff was amazing; this was indeed a top-notch experience.
